it's thanksgiving week!

Thanksgiving dinner planning and prep
is in full force around here!

The cranberry sauce is the first thing I can check off the list. It’s one of the easiest things to make, so I do that first. A full bag of fresh cranberries goes into the pot with a little sugar, fresh orange juice and zest, freshly grated ginger and water. After it thickens on the stove for a while, I pass it through a food mill, to get it nice and silky smooth, and that’s it! I then put it in a pretty bowl and pop it in the fridge 'til Thursday.

Tonight I’ll roast my two sugar pumpkins so I’ll be ready to make pies tomorrow. I’m buying one other pie, and making a few pumpkin ones. The kids will get to pick out their favorite pie from Marie Callender’s

As much as I love these cute turkey plates, this year I have the table is set with simple ivory Wedgwood china that I just love. (You’ll get to see the final table soon!) How does your family set the table? Is it formal, or buffet style?

Here’s a handy table setting chart for reference.

I do like to interpret my own setting
but like to use this as a guideline.

Do you remember last year’s table
where I used these pretty pheasant feathers?

This year, I’ll be using these cute twig wreaths instead.

They add just the right rustic quality that
contrasts the fancy Wedgwood perfectly!

Here’s my Thanksgiving table from two years ago.

A vase of fresh fall leaves always adds so much fall charm!

I have a vase of them in my kitchen nook right now.

There's a nice neighbor who doesn’t mind
me clipping a few small branches every so often. J

A couple of the gorgeous heirloom pumpkins did get carved for Halloween, but the remaining ones will make their way into the dining room for a little extra autumn ambiance.

Here’s a fun idea someone had! This won’t work this time around, since we’ll be having a fire going on Thanksgiving. I do love that tile surrounding this fire place, though.

Here’s a simple place setting from Joanna Gaines. I really like the look of the eucalyptus branches that’s so popular right now. It adds a fresh, modern look to the table.

And Thanksgiving leftovers will get new side to go with those faithful turkey sandwiches… These stuffing waffles look amazing! All you do is cook leftover stuffing in your waffle iron ‘til it’s crispy and top with hot mashed potatoes and gravy. How can that be bad?!

And yes, we're all anxiously waiting for that moment the turkey comes out of the oven... Oh, the aroma!

cinco de mayo fiesta

When I think of Cinco de Mayo décor,
I think color, color, color!
I want festive flowers
and lots of bright accessories for my table.

So, this week I went shopping at
the local Mexican Market,
to grab some of these large
multi-colored cans of tomato sauce.
What’s great about these
El Pato cans is there are
no paper labels.
The cute graphic is
printed right on the can!

And, the little green cans make the
perfect votive holders
to scatter on the table.

While I was there, I also picked up
some fruity Mexican sodas called “Jarritos”.
It comes in flavors like
mango, pineapple, lime and mandarin.
Tasty and again so colorful!

For some,
Cinco de Mayo would not be complete
 without a refreshing margarita.
Here's my favorite recipe from
The Barefoot Contessa.

Authentic Margaritas

• 1 lime, halved
• Kosher salt
• 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (5 limes)
• 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (1 lemon)
• 1 cup Triple Sec
• 1 cup white tequila
• 2 cups ice, plus extra for serving

• If you like margaritas served in a glass with salt, rub the outside rims of 6 glasses with a cut lime and dip each glass lightly into a plate of kosher salt.
• Combine the lime juice, lemon juice, Triple Sec, tequila, and ice in a blender and puree. Place extra ice in a cocktail shaker. Fill with margarita mix, shake well, and strain into glasses.
Serves 4-6.

For fun, I’m setting each place setting with
an individual basket of chips and salsa.
These cute baskets are from the Mexican Market too,
and come in pink, yellow, green and blue.

I added more brightness with the plates and napkins.
Now we're all set for our friends to drop by.

Do you like to celebrate Cinco de Mayo too?

If so,
Buen Provecho!

time for a garden party

We’re having the most perfect weather
for a garden party!

All I know is this is where I want to
spend Mother's Day,
and every weekend leading up to it. 💗

These flowers are just a bunch of ivy geraniums
snipped from the garden.

Isn't the color divine?

adorable easter place setting

Well, now that we’re well into April,
my focus will be on Easter décor.
In my collaboration with Oriental Trading,
I’ve put together several fun and easy Easter ideas
for your table and more.

This first one in the series is
a sweet little place setting
that’s really a cinch to put together.

There’s not much crafting involved
and these little guys will last at least a week or more,
so you can make them early and
really enjoy them!

I started with a set of these light colored

These little flower pots are the perfect size
and can be used in so many different ways too!

Now for something to put in these pots.
My favorite health food market, Mother’s Market,
sells 4 inch pots of wheatgrass,
and they’re only $2.

I also picked up a bunch of this
small purple wax flower.
Each container of wheatgrass
will fill 4 of these mini flower pots.
I just took the wheatgrass out of its pot,
and using a serrated bread knife,
divided into 4 little squares that fit
perfectly in each pot.

All you have let to do now is decorate
with small flowers
and your bunny!

Make sure to water the wheatgrass
after a day or two and
you may even have to trim it a bit,
because it grows so fast!

Here’s a glimpse of my tablescape
with a few more elements added.
This faux farmhouse table was a thrift store find
at only $12!

I had so much fun distressing it
and then finishing it off with some
fabulous chalk paint.

And, the timing couldn’t be more perfect for my
new Serena & Lily French bistro “Riviera” chairs
to arrive this week.
I ordered them online,
and they arrived so quickly!

I love how they look with my little table and all the Easter goodies surrounding them.
Now I’m off to look for a few
of my pretty vintage dishes that have that
delicate spring look.

You see, I’m working on another look
for Easter

Make sure to stop by again soon
for more on this
