black and white for outdoor spaces

For the chicest of chic looks for your outdoor living areas,
try a dramatic black and white color scheme.
A solid black wall is brought to life with an eye catching display
of all white plates and black and white Spode transferware plates,
and then grounded by a great zebra-print area rug.
Keep the design classic and simple.
Stripes are always a nice choice for a table cloth.
Color can then be added with gorgeous flowers.
Create an outdoor retreat with a resort vibe.
Large or small, your space will shine.
A large plain wall can be simply adorned with stencils or real bird cages.
A softly draped area is sure to add ambiance.
Bring out some of your indoor pieces for a special gathering.
Mix and match beautiful geometric prints.
Your space will be pretty to look at,
and even better to relax in.

blue and white loveliness

With Spring now upon us, I had to stop by Roger’s Gardens here in Newport Beach to check out all the fun flowers, plants and succulents they have in for the season.  I was pleasantly surprised at their new and gorgeous displays of blue and white accessories!  Blue and white is always a classic color combination and can be incorporated in so many different styles of décor.  Of course, their little boutiques within the store are always fun to visit, and I sometimes pick up a few treasures here and there.  Here are a few of my favorite vignettes that I came across during my visit.

is coffee really good for you?

“The latest study in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute finds coffee may lower the risk for the most serious type of skin cancer, malignant melanoma. Prior research has shown coffee may help prevent other types of non-melanoma skin cancers. However, this is the first large-scale study to look specifically at malignant melanoma, which is the fifth most common cancer in the U.S. and the leading cause of skin cancer deaths.”
“The researchers found that frequent coffee drinkers -- those who consumed four cups or more per day -- had a 20 percent lower risk for developing malignant melanoma than those who drank less coffee. The researchers also observed the protective benefits of coffee increased the more a person drank. Decaffeinated coffee did not provide the same protective benefits.
“While the results of this new study are encouraging for coffee drinkers, the authors say their findings are preliminary.  Previous studies have shown that regular coffee consumption may help reduce the risk of other serious conditions including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, depression, liver disease and even early death. The beverage's antioxidant properties have also long been associated with reducing the risk for other types of skin cancer.”

color inspiration : emerald green

“Emerald green: This is an inspiring and uplifting color suggesting abundance and wealth in all its forms, from material wellbeing, to emotional wellbeing to creative ideas.  It is the color of balance and harmony. From a color psychology perspective, it is the great balancer of the heart and the emotions, creating equilibrium between the head and the heart.  From a meaning of colors perspective, green is also the color of growth, the color of spring, of renewal and rebirth. It renews and restores depleted energy. It is the sanctuary away from the stresses of modern living, restoring us back to a sense of wellbeing.  This is why there is so much of this relaxing color on the earth, and why we need to keep it that way.  Green promotes a love of nature, and a love of family, friends, pets and the home. It is the color of the garden lover, the home lover and the good host.”  via empower yourself with color psychology.
