the ultimate turkey sandwich

Black Friday for me and my family means munching on all the yummy Thanksgiving leftovers.  This year, the folks at Oroweat® asked me to make my version of the ultimate turkey sandwich using their Oroweat® Organic Sandwich Bread.  Anyone who knows me knows I only buy organic food and that I love all the Thanksgiving dinner menu items, so it seemed like the perfect challenge for me.  Made with organic ingredients and whole grains, NEW Oroweat Organic breads are the delicious way to feel better about eating better.
Not only that, but Oroweat® is offering my readers a chance to win three (3) coupons, each valid for a free loaf of Oroweat® Organic bread, and a $25 Visa gift to help you create your favorite sandwiches (a $40 value)!  That means a very easy giveaway for all my readers, see below to enter.

Here’s how I created our family’s favorite sandwich, the Bacon Guacamole Turkey Sandwich, or the “BGT”, haha!
I started by lightly toasting the Organic
Oroweat Grains and Seeds sandwich bread.
Found in my local grocery store.
I cooked my bacon and let it crisp up on a paper towel.
I like using guacamole for this sandwich because it has the creaminess
of the avocado with the added flavor of the tomato, onion and cilantro.
Recipe for “Martha’s Guacamole” below.
I start with slathering the guacamole on the first piece of bread.
 Next I added the bacon
Then I layered thick slices of our Thanksgiving turkey.
{White meat only for me!}
Just a touch of mayo and black pepper.
And that’s it!

·         2 ripe avocados, peeled, pitted, and lightly mashed
·         1/2 cup minced onion
·         1 jalapeno chile, minced (remove seeds and ribs for less heat)
·         1 plum tomato, seeded and diced
·         1/4 cup chopped cilantro
·         2 to 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
·         Coarse salt
In a bowl, combine avocados, onion, jalapeno, tomato, cilantro, and lime juice. Season with salt, and mix to combine.   (If you make the guacamole several hours ahead, keep it in the refrigerator. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, pressing the plastic directly onto the surface of the guacamole to prevent discoloration.)

elements of my Thanksgiving table

Starting to pull out some inspiration for Thanksgiving.
I want to go with lots of gold and white
and a few natural textures.
I'm starting with brown transferware
and Wedgwood's "Liverpool Birds"
set on creamy white Wedgewood "Patrician".
Let me know what you think!

thanksgiving table inspiration

Stopping by my local Pottery Barn is
always a great source of inspiration
for me during the holidays.
I love the rustic qualities of this table
setting with the glitzy additions
of mercury glass & pretty china.
It’s earthy, with a definite Italian vibe!

same house, two different Fall looks

This is an iconic house here in the neighborhood.  It stands out on it’s own as a beautifully designed home, but during the holidays, it really comes to life!  I took photo number one for my blog a few years ago and photo number two is in a recent issue of Better Homes and Gardens magazine .
It’s fun to see the evolution of this home, inside and out.  Home owner Jeanne Carmack has amazing style and eye-catching ideas, like these straw wreaths used indoors and outdoors for a gorgeous Autumn display.  Check out her home’s own pinterest board here.
